Bonjour!

Welcome to our blog about our trip to France.

London - Part One

London - Part One

We were in London for Christmas this year to see the lights and experience the hustle and bustle of shopping. Unfortunately, about 2 million other people had the same idea!

The outdoor displays did not disappoint. So pretty after a little bit of rain.

The shopping galleries were all done up too.

Liberty of London was on my “must-do” list.

It’s always beautiful, but even more so at Christmas. We were a little late for their famous Christmas Shop on the 4th floor, but I bought some fabric for quilting and a cream jug shaped like a squirrel. So British!

I also had to stop in at Shepard’s Fine Papers. They have the most amazing cartonnage, fine papers and bookbinding supplies. These boxes covered in Renato Crepaldi marbled paper are just divine.

And, of course, a stop at Harrod’s.

I love the art nouveau tile in the dining hall.

Next door, the chocolate hall is something to behold. You can buy chocolate from all over the world in one place. Wowza!

It think it’s time for a refreshing beverage!

Time for some sightseeing!

One of our first stops was the Tower of London. This fine gentleman suggested we see the crown jewels before the line got too long. He saved us at least an hour of standing in line. Also, I’m sure he has another leg under his cape.

It was pretty neat to see the Crown Jewels and the inside of the Tower of London, but I really came for the ravens. We were super lucky to come across this one early in the morning, just hanging around.

Do you think I can get a job here?

We had the best view of the Tower from the water.

This is about as close as we will get the London Eye. Again, London is mobbed this time of year and everything is by prior booking. I’m just not that organized.

Even with tickets, you wait in long lines. Maybe we’ll try Westminster Abbey on the second part of our London trip at the end of January.

Despite the cost and all the people, London is a stunning city.
